09-26-07 WMD/Terrorism Incident Defensive Operations for
Emergency Responders


The Choctaw Fire/Rescue Department will be hosting 2 FREE WMD courses from TEEX. These courses will be held at the Choctaw Fire Station starting at 08:00 am. PER 212 Defensive Operations for 1st Responders will be held Oct 9th – 11th & PER 211 EMS Operations and Planning for WMD will be held Oct 16th – 18th. These courses are designed for fire, rescue, EMS, law enforcement, haz-mat, hospital, public health & other agencies that are responsible for responding to WMD incidents. There are still a few seats open in each course, so you need to sign up ASAP. the linked flyers contain the course perquisites. Also, please pass on this information to all responders.

This course focuses on the special challenges faced by responders in dealing with a WMD or terrorist incident. Upon completion, participants will be able to respond to a WMD/Hazmat incident in a defensive mode. Responders will be able to preclude the spread of the hazard to the public and the environment. The WMD Operations course provides the knowledge and skills needed to obtain certification through NPQS (ProBoard) at the Hazardous Materials Operations level. The course is designed around lectures, interactive exercises, and group scenarios.

The Choctaw Fire Department is hosting a free hazardous materials course next Wednesday at the Choctaw fire station. The course will include a hands on demo of reactive materials. There are slots still available. This is a great beginner course in haz mat. The course will start at 08:00 and last approximately 6 to 8. This course will provide individuals with information on how to recognize a haz mat incident and how to protect themselves. It will also cover how to use the Emergency Response Guide. Depending on availability each student should receive an ERG.

03-21-06 TRAINING COURSE ANNOUNCEMENT
Choctaw Communications will be hosting a 40-hour Basic Telecommunicator Certification Course, May 15-19. Classes will run from 08:00 – 17:00. This course is for new, inexperienced & untrained telecommunications professionals, and satisfies the Basic Certification requirements for the State of Mississippi.

Classes will be held in the Training Room of Choctaw Fire Department. Choctaw Fire Department is located on Hwy 16, west of Philadelphia, approximately ¾ mile east of Silver Star & Golden Moon casinos.

Tuition for the course is $395.00/student which is reimbursable through the state. Checks should be made payable to Terry Robertson, and payment is requested in advance. Seating is limited and interested parties should register no later than April 28.
